I am wanting to buy some new clubs - any suggestions on who makes the best ladies clubs? I am about 5'5" - heavy set - pretty strong. I currently hit Taylormade Burner driver, 3 and rescue but Cobra irons.

There are alot of nice iron sets out there. I would say you should buy what feels most comfortable to you and have them fitted. You can go into any golf store and try whatever you like so go ahead and have fun with it. Just make sure you get what you want.

Just a suggestion, you can always TRY before you BUY when you attend a "DEMO" day provided by a Manufacturer. SOME companies will post "DEMO" days on their website, you'll need to see if there is one in your area. My wife's experience, she has found that the manufacturers have LIMITED ladies clubs on hand at these "DEMO" days.

I agree! That's how I bought my new irons. I tried several brands at the store, then I borrowed a 7-iron to try on the course (not all stores allow you to do that, unfortunately) and finally I got custom fitted. I don't regret it, I'm hitting my new irons (Ping Rapture v2) better than my old ones. When I'll have the time and the money, I'll get custom-fitted for all my clubs. It really helps :)

Thanks a lot. i have tried the Demo days and your right - they have very limited ladies clubs. i went to the North Texas Golf Expo here in Dallas and they had no ladies clubs at the Adam one. I was shocked. I will try the PGA Superstore since they have a decent selection and just hit them there. I'll ask about "borrowing" one to try.

Depending on your swing speed, you might actually be able to play with senior shafts instead of ladies'. I'm hitting men's clubs with great result. A club fitter would be able to tell you whether this would be a good option for you as well! Or when you're at the store, you can also ask to try the same club in ladies and senior, to see if it makes a difference.

Are you going to the PGA Superstore in Plano off of Preston Rd.? If so, see if my buddy Rick Karbowski is working in the clubfitting area when you go. He does a heck of a job. Tell him Tim sent ya.

One thing to look out for is the weight of ladies' clubs. If you're pretty strong, some of the clubs might have too little weight in the clubhead for you. My wife's clubs are feathers...they're okay for her, but she's only 5' and not very strong. You actually might see better results by buying men's clubheads and fitting them with a good shaft for you. Another advantage to that is the lofts are generally stronger on men's clubs (ladies' clubs have weaker lofts to 'help' the ball in the air), meaning you'll hit it farther.

Of course, the only way to really know what works is to go hit 'em. Good luck!
